The Halfway Junior High and High School Student Council seeks to serve the student body and community with activities throughout the school year. While other activities vary from year to year, Student Council primary responsibilities include coordinating Red Ribbon Week and Homecoming activities.
A highlight of the Student Council is fundraising week, during which the group coordinates events to raise funds for a selected nonprofit organization. Since 2011, Student Council has collaborated with Susan G. Komen, March of Dimes, Make a Wish Foundation, National MS Society, and the Alzheimer’s Association and to date has raised over $7500. Last year’s work with the Alzheimer’s Association also resulted in the Student Council being recognized at the 2016 Young Philanthropist of the Year, an annual award given by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. |
